No soap box today, I just want to celebrate some of my favourite Australian designers!
I am so proud of the down under designers leading the pack these days. Especially ones that scream "hot aussie weather'. Bright colours, pastels, flowing fabrics and that distinctly all Australian, " throw another shrimp on the barbie", laid back style. It's probably the best aspect of Australian and Kiwi culture, the laid back, "outdoorsy", "she'll be right shazza" attitude to life. That's why I can't get enough of designers like Arabella Ramsay, Zimmermann, Alice Mccall, Camilla and so many others. Granted, Zimmermann and Camilla would be better suited to my life if I spent it lounging on luxury yachts( alas it isn't so), but a girl can admire the craftsmanship all the same. Arabella Ramsay may come from a family of Melbourne old money, but she's got the earthy, country girl pizzazz perfectly balanced with city cool that makes her designs so versatile and lovely.
It's usually pretty easy to tell which designers are Melbourne or Sydney based ( or else where), their style somehow emulates the subtle differences in the lifestyle each city offers.
Sass & Bide is always quirky and fun, Scanlan & Theodore is so elegant, and Collette Dinnigan is just exquisite, feminine and wonderfully detailed.
